Breathtaking firework displays

The main attraction of the area is the majestic Arenal Volcano; its almost perfect conical shape stands out in the undulating landscape and can be admired from far away. Arenal's last explosion was in 1969, but this volcano is far from dormant. It constant rumbles and spits out ashes which are it’s most popular characteristics but you may also observe from time to time a spectacular display of flowing red-hot lava and incandescent rocks flying through the air.

The main attraction of the Arenal area are the warm waters heated up in the volcano’s core which can be enjoyed in one of the many hot springs, many of them are surrounded by tropical gardens. But the area features abundant wildlife and exotic vegetation, apart from numerous waterfalls and rivers.

The area offers intimate rustic lodges and upscale boutique hotels. Several properties offer private hot springs, great spa services and trails through the tropical forest.

With breathtaking views of the Arenal Volcano, most properties offer you the opportunity to see its spectacular eruptions at night from your bed or the swimming pool.

There are plenty activities which can be practiced in the area, like bathing in the hot springs, canopy tours, hiking through the rainforest, visiting a National Park, white water rafting, horseback riding, hanging bridges and boat tours to Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge; Costa Rica’s prime wetland ecosystem and the home to crocodiles, monkeys, fresh water turtles and different aquatic birds.

Lake Arenal is a 26 square mile, manmade reservoir, created in the early 70’s when engineers flooded the valley and build one of the largest hydroelectric projects in the country, driving around the lake you may enjoy breathtaking sight of the Arenal volcano. The lake is the perfect spot for windsurfers and fishermen who may catch rainbow bass.

La Fortuna is the closest town to the volcano; here you will find restaurants, souvenir shops, banks, post office and many hotels.
